A Shift of Identity (Quote of the Week)

by Andrew Cohen5 Comments

340459-4-running-at-sunriseWhen the evolutionary impulse is manifesting in our experience as either an inspired act of creative genius or as a surge of spiritually illuminated wisdom or insight, it temporarily becomes the self, the Authentic Self of the individual. In those moments, we become animated by that same inspired energy and intelligence that initiated the creative process. This is when the ego is displaced by the presence of a higher consciousness and the self becomes illumined by that consciousness. When this shift of identity occurs, the Authentic Self becomes the driver of the personality and the personal self takes a back seat. In Evolutionary Enlightenment, first awakening to the evolutionary impulse and then striving wholeheartedly to become a living example of its expression, which is the Authentic Self, is both the path and the goal.

This quote is wonderfully moving and yet current and authentic all at once – a rare combination.

I love the term evolutionary impulse!

May we all find a way to move aside, and let the beat of nature play it’s tune through us.

The evolutionary impulse is not something different from our human being. It is not something which somehow comes and replaces our true self. It is quite vice versa. What you call an evolutionary impulse is your very innermost core being, which never goes and never comes neither temporarily nor for longer periods. It is just your very essence being. It is always and eternally your center of the being. What is temporary, what comes and one day has to go for ever, it is your self, your ego or to say it in other words your illusion for separateness from the “evolutionary impulse”, which is your true nature. “Evolutionary” enlightenment happens in the moment you realize there is nowhere to go, because you are already it. When all going, coming, striving and so on and so forth ceases, then enlightenment happens.

The evolutionary impulse is simply the wave of creative illumination/enlightenment that floods our beings when our spirit is attuned with that of the Almighty God, the creator of heaven and earth.

  • Aliya

The only way for us to move aside is to move away from our ego, to stop identifying ourselves with our ego. The ego is our only bondage.

I prefer calling it not an evolutionary impulse but the longing of our heart. It is our deepest longing we carry with us since we were born. The longing for the Beloved. This longing is our very nature.
    “Look deep into your heart.
Listen to the still small voice within.
    And remember one thing:
life is fulfilled only through longings, never through ambitions.
Life becomes blissful only through the heart, never through the mind.
Mind creates science, the heart creates religion.
Mind can give you better technology, better gadgets.
The heart gives you the real, ultimate values:
love, bliss, truth, freedom, awareness, God.
And a life without these values is valueless. “
